Osteopathy – a safe and effective way to become and stay pain-free
We are all different, there is no such thing as a perfect posture, a perfect body. Our lifestyle, our jobs, hobbies – in fact all kinds of life experiences influence our bodies. The job of an osteopath is to minimize the negative influences by correcting and balancing all the systems of the body.
An osteopath conducts a very thorough examination of the entire body and then treats it as a whole. For example, If you have blocks and restrictions in your spine, this can have a mechanical influence on the other parts of the body. It can also affect the vascular system or compromise the optimal function of your digestive system. It is common that the symptoms are only a sign of disturbed function somewhere in the body.
Osteopaths use a range of gentle hands-on techniques including specific manipulations, mobilizations, soft tissue stretching and cranio-sacral therapy.
Osteopathy is based on the traditional natural sciences. Osteopaths have great knowledge in anatomy, neurology, physiology, biomechanics, embryology and pathology. Osteopathy is a safe and effective way to treat, reduce and prevent pain. Function and structure are interconnected – if you have a well functioning body then you are less likely to develop painful conditions.

What is osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a manual treatment form where the osteopath examines and treats the body as a whole. This means we don't just look at the area where you feel pain, but also at how muscles, joints, connective tissue, the nervous system and movement patterns interact. The goal is to identify possible causes of your discomfort and help the body return to better balance and function.
What does an osteopath do?
An osteopath examines the body's mobility, tension and function using their hands, and uses manual techniques to treat relevant areas. Treatment may target joints, muscles, connective tissue and the body's overall pattern of strain, among other things. At City Osteopati & Fysioterapi, treatment is always tailored to you, your symptoms and your everyday life, so the process feels safe, concrete and professionally grounded.
What issues can osteopathy help with?
Osteopathy can be relevant for both acute and long-term issues in muscles, tendons and joints. Many people seek an osteopath for back pain, neck pain, tension, sports injuries, overuse or functional problems in the body. Treatment is based on a thorough examination, where we assess what may be contributing to strain on the body. Osteopathy is not a guarantee of recovery, but it can be part of a targeted course of treatment.
Is osteopathy the same as physiotherapy?
Osteopathy and physiotherapy share several common areas, but the approach can differ. Physiotherapy often works with assessment, exercises, rehabilitation and function, while osteopathy typically takes a broader, whole-body focus on how the body's structures connect, using manual techniques. At City Osteopati & Fysioterapi, we can combine professional perspectives when it makes sense, so you receive treatment tailored to your symptoms and needs.
What happens during the first treatment?
The first treatment usually starts with a conversation about your symptoms, your everyday life, previous injuries and what you would like help with. The osteopath then examines the body's mobility, tension and function. Based on the examination, treatment is tailored to you. You will also receive an explanation of what we find and what the next steps might be. Book an appointment if you would like a thorough assessment of your symptoms.
